Hi, my name is Carolyn E. Smith
I have been conducting research in New
London County CT. since 1972. While I was
born in Ohio and have retired back here, my
heart is in New England. My love for the area
began when my late husband was in the Navy,
stationed at the U S Submarine Base, where
we resided for many years.
Accomplishments -
During that time, I conducted extensive
research on the history and genealogy of the
area. Highlights of my accomplishments
include the following:
Co-Authored: Historic Ledyard Vol. I Gales
Ferry Village, Historic Ledyard Vol. II Ledyard
Center and
Sept. 6, 1781 North Groton's Story
Received an award from the CT Society of
Genealogists for Historic Ledyard Vol. I Gales
Ferry Village.
Received a commendation from the
American Association for State and Local
History for Sept. 6, 1781 North Groton's Story
Capt. Allyn Williams house built in 1803 located in Gales Ferry Village.
This is the house I owned, which started my love of research, and
eventually led to the research of the other historic homes in Gales
Ferry, CT.
My Services-
I have acquired an extensive library of
materials pertaining to the New London
County, CT., area. My expertise and emphasis
is on the towns of New London, Groton and
Ledyard. On this site, I've included a partial
listing of my sources to give you a better sense
of the resources that I have on hand. Please
contact me if you think I can help you find a
date or a person , or if I can be a bridge to
further research.
My goal is to share my materials . I do not research outside of my home; therefore, I am only able to use the extensive Library of sources I have on hand pertaining to the New London, Connecticut area
